Graphite contact disk Azonik

Azonik Axle Grounding Graphite Disk is a critical component in railway systems designed to manage return current. Engineered with precision, this component creates a safe path with extremely low electrical resistance. By utilizing advanced materials, this disk ensures stable performance up to 2 million kilometers of operation, effectively preventing damage to bogie bearings and rollers caused by electrical currents, and minimizing fleet maintenance costs.

Product Introduction
  • Optimal Electrical Resistance (Low Ohm): Creates a safe, low-resistance path in the grounding circuit to prevent the phenomenon of electrolysis in bearings.
  • Exceptional Operational Lifespan: Designed for a service life of up to 2,000,000 km, reducing service intervals and component replacement frequency.
  • Plug & Play Replacement: The standard design allows for easy replacement with existing parts without requiring any structural modifications to the bogie.

Significance and Function of the Axle Grounding System

In urban trains and metros, the electrical current required for traction and auxiliary power systems (APS) is supplied via overhead catenary or third rail. Once consumed, this current must return to the rails. Since train wheels are the only connection point to the rail, return current must pass through them. Without a proper grounding path, currents of several hundred amperes tend to flow through the bearings and axle rollers. The passage of current through these sensitive mechanical components leads to electrolysis and severe damage. The Azonik Axle Grounding Graphite Disk creates a parallel, low-resistance path, directing return current straight to the wheels and rails before it reaches the bearings.

Why the Azonik Graphite Disk?

This product is an advanced consumable part subjected to harsh working conditions (simultaneous mechanical wear and electrical current passage). Possessing specialized electrical and mechanical properties, the Azonik graphite disk performs the following three main functions in the train grounding system:

  • Safe Transfer of Return Current: Protection of bogies and bearings against stray currents.
  • Signaling Stability: Ensuring the quality of signal transmission for control and signaling systems.
  • Protective Earthing: Acting as a body grounding connection and increasing general fleet safety.

By choosing this graphite disk, in addition to benefiting from rigorous technical standards, you ensure the longevity of bogie equipment and significantly reduce fleet operational maintenance costs.
